With Dave and Bucky to scout for their Canoe Trip.
The night that we arrived, there was a pretty strong rain storm. We decided to spend some time checking out the Flume area.

Scouting for the Canoe Trip
The main purpose of our trip was to scout for a canoe trip that Dave and Bucky are planning for September. We spent the day traveling to Old Forge and made our way back. Along the way, we stopped at various put ins, take outs, and walked along some of the portage routes.
Algonquin, Iroquois, and Wright
On Thursday, Dave and I hiked to Algonquin while Bucky hiked Mt. Jo. I created a separate page for our hike. Here are some pictures from Bucky's hike.
A week with J
After Dave, Bucky and I came home, J and I traveled back up. We took J's camper instead of the teardrop. It cost more, but was an enjoyable place to stay. Our intention was to visit the Olympic Venues. Due to the Corona Virus Pandemic, much was unavailable. We were able to drive to the top of Whiteface and hiked a small part of the hiking trail (not the tourist trail) but decided not to summit. The ski jumping area was open and a few kids were practicing freestyle jumps into the pool. We thought that $20 each was too much to ride the lift up to the big ski jumps. The Bobsled area was under construction and we could not drive into the area at all.
TOBIE and Buttermilk
We spent a day driving to Inlet to check out the TOBIE trail. We discovered that the poor trail surface and markings made this a difficult trail. We rode along the trail from Inlet to Old Forge, then decided to make our way back along the road. We found out that the deli in the back of the local grocery store makes a fabulous hoagie. On the way back to camp, we cooled our feet at Buttermilk Falls.
Hiking at Big Crow
We were hoping to hike Owl's Head but the guide book and signs at the parking area seem to say that the area is closed. Instead we hiked Big Crow. This was a nice hike but not too challenging. Gave us a nice view of other high peaks including the Algonquin ridge that Dave and I had hiked the week before.
Shopping for Campers
On the way home we stopped at Albany RV to look at campers. I really liked the Jayco campers. Specifically the Jay Flight 195RB. This one is small and light and would be good for summer travel. J was intrigued with the 2021 Jay Feather that had many similarities to his favorite Grand Designs.
